How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
When a young Laurie Volz watched her mother and grandmothers making jelly on the kitchen stove, she could not have predicted the ways in which her family recipe was going to change her life.
Decades later, when Laurie herself was a young mother, she opted to follow the examples set by the women in her family and turned to her heritage for inspiration.
The weekend before Thanksgiving in 1981, Laurie Lynch was asked to participate in a holiday boutique in Rye, New Hampshire. With half of the family’s food budget, she bought supplies and prepared her family’s treasured pepper jelly recipe. Sales were brisk that Saturday morning and within two hours she had sold all 60 jars. Through word of mouth, news of Laurie’s delicious pepper jelly spread and within five weeks, she had sold over 700 jars—all lovingly adorned with a gingham square and tied with a length of red ribbon by her 85 year-old grandmother. Little did Laurie know that the seeds of The Lollipop Tree had been planted!
